Spam is for sandwiches, not SEO

Posted by

1.4 gigabytes of spam came through my comments on the 10th of this month.

Which is very frustrating because I like having comments enabled, when I was a teenager and learning to program(programme?) I would use blog comments all the time.

What did I do?
I enabled rate limiting and the cloudflare captcha on post, what else do you want from me 🤷‍♀️.
Should I set-up a honeypot?
I’ll probably do that.

Great post! Spam comments can indeed turn any site into a headache. Enabling rate limiting and captchas seems like a solid start.

Have you considered incorporating a honeypot? It’s a sneaky but effective way to catch rogue bots. I remember reading about similar techniques on Sebbie’s blog, which covers cool JavaScript tricks and security measures for sites.

Thanks for sharing your experience with this. Looking forward to seeing how you manage the incoming spam in the future!
